在接下来的视频中，杰德继续沉浸在难以置信和恐惧之中。她拉扯着镣铐，脸朝下趴在床上，在牢房里踱来踱去，坐在马桶上，徒劳地用笔抠着镣铐，跪在地上，脸埋在枕头里，捂着肚子，一阵阵恶心和焦虑袭来，这是她适应囚犯生活后产生的反应。

Jade is a nervous and mostly compliant new convict who self surrendered this morning to begin a 3 year state prison sentence. She has turned over all her clothes and possessions, and been given her new clothing as an inmate: classic black and white striped scrubs, and a plastic orange wristband displaying a mugshot, number, and other identifying information for quick reference by her jailors. Nothing else.

Handcuffed and shackled she is walked to her cell. She faces the wall while the CO unlocks and opens the cell door. She peers in at her new home, for the first time seeing the stainless steel toilet and sink installed a foot away from the concrete bunk that makes the cell's bed. It is very small, cold, grey, and otherwise featureless little cell, with no windows. Whatever Jade had pictured being in prison was going to be like, now she is looking right at it for the first time. She sighs looking in as the door is opened for her.

After Jade is locked in, her handcuffs are moved to the front and she is told to settle in for a bit.

It is interesting to see how the inmate handles her first moments locked up. The door is shut, the guard walks away, and Jade barely moves from her spot. She stares a the bunk in front of her and anxiously seethes, pulls at her hair, then slumps her arms hopelessly. Jade eventually sits down with her back against the wall of the foot of the bed and stays pressed to the door of her cell. She looks back at the toilet occasionally but has barely set foot into the cell. She's staying as close to the door as she can, and only glimpsing at her new room's features and fixtures from over her shoulder. This could be viewed perhaps as Jade still attempting to refuse or emotionally deny to herself that she is actually locked in this cell, and that this is home now. It's a difficult pill to suddenly be swallowing.

Jade stands up from the door when one of the guards arrives dragging in her bed. The blue mattress and pillow are tossed down, and Jade stands at the back of the cell with her cuffed hands up on her head while the bedding is put in her cell. A box of toiletries and some other basics are given to her. The CO speaks at her with a memorized laundry list of rules regarding this small plastic personal property box. He leaves the cell, locks her back in, and then has her present her hands to have the cuffs taken off. Her wrists are freed so she can start getting more comfortable in her cell. Comfort perhaps not being the right word to use there.

Jade inspects the things in her box, but doesn't seem too happy to have her only possessions now be a bar of soap, a toothbrush, a comb, and pen, and a few pieces of paper. Beyond doing something with these things, her options will be to look at the walls, look out the bars at some other walls, or stare down at her own shackled feet and the prison uniform she is stuck wearing. 3 Years is really not that long of a time in the scale of a persons life, but time here will feel stretched beyond belief.

For the rest of the video Jade continues a cycle of disbelief and horror at her situation. She tugs at her chains, lays face down on her bunk, walks around the cell, sits on her toilet, try's hopelessly picking at her shackles with a pen, kneels over on her knees with her face in the pillow clutching her stomach as the wash of retching anxiety that accompanies adjusting to now having to live as a prisoner takes it's hold.

She seems to still maintain that she is innocent, but either way the court case is now long over. This is the verdict and her punishment is non-negotiable. Jade may file an appeal from within prison if she really believes the court got it wrong, or she can start taking responsibility and trying to secure an earlier release, but today it doesn't really matter. More generally the CO's in the unit she is assigned don't care about any of this so the pleading of her innocence is only heard by the walls of her cell at this point.

The inmates are told the lights are going out soon, and all inmates need to be on their bunks. Jade lays down and stares at the ceiling as the lights in her cell go out. Tomorrow she will be waking up in this cell, wearing these clothes, still shackled and locked up. She will get up for a headcount in the morning and then spend the day passing time until yet another one is marked off her sentence. Jade looks up at the ceiling of her cell contemplating this future and how much is now left to go. It seems unlikely she will be getting much rest on this first night.
